Accurate online density measurement is required for custody transfer, mass determination, and process monitoring in pipeline systems. Verifying the performance of density meters under operating conditions is often difficult using conventional offline sampling and laboratory analysis because verification is periodic, time consuming, and may introduce operational and safety constraints.

This work evaluates the performance of online density meters and investigates the use of a calibrated Master Density Meter as an alternative approach for field verification. Laboratory testing was carried out across a representative range of temperatures, pressures, and density conditions using multiple traceable reference fluids. The study also assesses the impact of calibration approach, including multi-fluid and single-fluid calibration, on measurement performance.
The report provides guidance on calibration strategy, coefficient optimization, and the practical implementation of Master Density Meter based verification. It is intended for operators, measurement specialists, and engineers responsible for density measurement in hydrocarbon systems, supporting improved measurement confidence and more efficient verification practices.
